About CannPrescribe

CannPrescribe exists to support clinicians across Europe as medical cannabis moves from emerging policy into real-world clinical practice.

Across Europe, the legal and regulatory status of medical cannabis varies widely. Some countries have established prescribing frameworks, while others are still in pilot phases or early implementation. In this environment, many clinicians are interested in medical cannabis but lack access to structured education, practical guidance and peer support grounded in real clinical experience.

CannPrescribe was created to bridge this gap. We provide clinically grounded education and informed consultancy for medical professionals navigating medical cannabis prescribing in complex and evolving healthcare systems. Our focus is on clinical clarity, professional responsibility and shared learning - helping clinicians understand when prescribing may be appropriate, how to practise safely, and how to develop confidence in an area that sits outside traditional medical training.

Drawing on experience from the UK and across Europe, CannPrescribe brings together education, insight and a cross-border professional community. Our work is designed to support clinicians in delivering ethical, evidence-informed care, while contributing to higher standards and more consistent practice as medical cannabis continues to develop across Europe.

Founded by Clinical Experience

CannPrescribe was founded by Dr David Tang, a Consultant in Emergency Medicine with over five years’ experience working within the medical cannabis sector.

Dr Tang graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ in London in 2007 and became a Consultant in Emergency Medicine in 2021. His clinical career has included work with the military and elite sports teams, alongside a longstanding focus on patients whose needs are not adequately met by conventional treatment pathways.

Through his work across multiple medical cannabis services, Dr Tang gained first-hand experience of prescribing cannabis-based medicines for patients with chronic and complex conditions that had not responded to standard treatments. He also observed significant variation in clinical confidence, education and governance frameworks - both within the UK and internationally.

As medical cannabis began to expand rapidly, particularly in systems without established clinical training pathways, it became clear that many clinicians were being asked to practise in an emerging field without the education, peer support or real-world insight needed to do so safely. CannPrescribe was founded in response: to provide clinicians across Europe with access to practical education, shared experience and informed guidance - learning not only from what has worked, but also from the challenges and mistakes encountered in earlier-adopting countries.

CannPrescribe exists to help clinicians approach medical cannabis with confidence, caution and clinical integrity - and to support the development of a more informed, collaborative and patient-centred future for medical cannabis in Europe.
